The biological meaning of an adult animal or human is one who has fully matured. For humans, the term adult has implications that are based on moral and social concepts. As opposed to someone not considered an adult or "minor" an legal adult has attained majority, making them self-sufficient, capable, and responsible. They are also known as "majors", they can also be thought as having reached the age of majority. The age for achieving legally adulthood is 18 but the definition can vary based on legal rights, country and the level of development in psychological terms.

If a person attains full physical and intellectual maturity this is known as adulthood. Commonly, adulthood begins around age 21, or 20. Mid-life, beginning around 40 years old, is followed by old age at about 60 years old. Adulthood is divided into three distinct phases early adulthood (18-30 years) and Middle Adulthood (30-60 years) and late adulthood (60%-60 percent). As we enter the initial stage of adulthood (between 20 and 40) then our bodies have reached full maturation although the weight and height of our bodies could increase slightly. As we enter our early twenties, our physical abilities are at their highest levels. They include strength of muscles and reaction time.
